Shibashi Comes Alive

Discover Effortless Flow Through 18 Qigong Movements

Shibashi is often taught as a sequence of 18 gentle Qigong movements.

But the practice is more than learning the movements themselves.

In Shibashi Comes Alive, I take you progressively through all 18 movements while exploring the principles behind them — alignment, relaxation, rooting, weight shifting, whole-body connection and flow.

My aim is not simply to help you perform the movements correctly, but to help you feel what is happening within them.

Whether you are new to Shibashi or have practised it for years, I hope this course will help you discover greater ease, connection and flow in your practice.

What You Will Learn

The course takes you progressively through all 18 movements of Shibashi, while exploring the principles that bring them alive.

You will explore:

  • standing, alignment and active relaxation
  • rooting and weight shifting
  • opening and closing
  • moving from the waist and centre
  • coordinating the whole body
  • continuity and natural flow
  • allowing the breath to find its own rhythm

The aim is not simply to perform the movements correctly.

It is to gradually discover greater ease, connection and flow within the movements themselves.

You can watch the lesson on the first three Shibashi movements below. It will give you a good sense of how I teach—not simply the movements themselves, but the principles of alignment, relaxation, rooting and flow behind them.

Take your time. Try the movements with me.

If you find this approach helpful, you can continue with the complete course.

This is the complete sequence you will be learning and exploring throughout the course.

For Beginners — And Those Already Practising Shibashi

You do not need previous experience with Shibashi, Tai Chi or Qigong.

If you are new to Shibashi, the course introduces the movements progressively, so you can learn at your own pace.

If you already know the 18 movements, the course offers a different opportunity: to return to familiar movements and explore them more deeply.

We spend considerable time on details and underlying principles that are often passed over when the emphasis is simply on learning the sequence—alignment, rooting, weight shifting, opening and closing, moving from the waist, whole-body connection, and flow.

Sometimes a movement you have practised for years can feel quite different once you understand what is happening inside it.

One Final Thought

Shibashi consists of only 18 movements.

You can learn the sequence relatively quickly.

But that doesn’t mean there is nothing more to discover.

The same movements can feel different as your understanding of relaxation, alignment, rooting, connection and flow deepens.

That is why I called this course Shibashi Comes Alive.

I hope it will help you not simply to do Shibashi, but to discover more of what is already within these deceptively simple movements.
